The best ideas come in the kitchen!
Our story begins with a gift: a fresh, homemade loaf of bread that inventor and founder Sebastian receives from his aunt. It's delicious—and very difficult to slice into halfway thin slices.
The idea for a small pressure board – later called a "shield" – was born. A prototype quickly became a popular kitchen tool among friends. And so the decision was made to produce and sell the cutting board, now dubbed the "mill board," ourselves. The best ideas, after all, come from the kitchen – even if the study occasionally became a workshop.
From Westphalia to the world
We now ship to 17 countries around the globe—from Europe to the USA and Canada, from Chile to South Korea. To meet increasing demand, we are now supported in production by family businesses in Poland who share our passion for quality and care. From there, the finished boards go directly to our warehouse and on to our customers worldwide.

Your mill board is made in collaboration with small family businesses in Poland – from FSC-certified beechwood, precisely crafted, and finished with food-safe hard wax oil. Each board is carefully inspected before being shipped to our warehouse and from there directly to you.

We rely on sustainable materials and short delivery routes: Our wood comes from responsible forestry, our packaging is plastic-free, and shipping is efficient and direct. This results in a product that is well thought out – both ecologically and functionally.
100% Independent Energy
Our manufacturing partners share our commitment to quality and care – and also rely on renewable energy. Where possible, the electricity comes from their own photovoltaic systems. Because for us, good craftsmanship and environmental protection go hand in hand.

Who we are – and why the mill board exists

The mill board isn't the result of an idea conceived at a desk—it's a product of real, everyday kitchen life. As passionate home cooks and family people, we've experienced firsthand how impractical conventional cutting boards often are: either too light, too slippery, too large, or simply unwieldy. Above all, however, they're not well thought out.
We wanted a board that not only looks good, but that actually helps. One that takes work off your hands. One that's safer, more precise, more efficient. And so we developed it ourselves – out of genuine need, with attention to detail, and the goal of making the kitchen a little bit better.
Why mill board? The name is no coincidence.
Our workshop is located in an old grain mill in the Münsterland region. A place that stands for craftsmanship, quality, and regional ties. This is where our products are created – in collaboration with local family businesses that have practiced their craft for generations.
Mühlenbrett stands for durable kitchen products that combine design with everyday practicality. For solutions that are not only functional but also beautiful – minimalist, clear, and stylish.
Handmade in Germany – fair, local and sustainable.
Each board is crafted in Westphalian factories. We work exclusively with locally sourced wood—FSC-certified, from sustainable forestry. Production is powered by green electricity, packaging is recycled materials, and shipping is plastic-free.
